The function on 15th September 2002 inauguration of first phase of steps to our Lord at Jnanamalai began at 8 am with Satguru Muttukumaraguruswami starting off the palkudams for Girivalam. About ten renowned Tiruppugazh sabhas climbed the hill singing prayers. Earlier the steps were anointed by turmeric and sandalwood. Each step was given a pooja.
There was a big abhishekam of both the Moolavar and Utsavar of the Lord simultaneously with singing of Tiruppugazh. It was a grand sight and the whole area was reverberating with Tiruppugazh.
In the pictures above you see the anointed steps, abhishekam of the Utsavar and the decorated Moolavar. It was a great day for the Tiruppugazh Sangamam as well as all the Murugan devotees who attended. Afterwards we served annadanam for more than a thousand adiyars.
The climax of the day was the visit by our Sri Subrahmanyaswamy from Bangalore. It was very hot and people cannot walk on the hill. Swamiji prayed and within minutes there was abig cloud the place became cool and it rained! Many devotees watched this with great awe.
